Isnāt this a good example of a learning environment many of us have been exposed to, for all the years weāve lived?
Sadly so but true, right?
Where we (the many of us Iām talking about) are indoctrinated to grab answers like itās the Gospel truth being talked about
Dare to ask a question or two and you just might find yourself on the teacherās radar!
In worse cases, you get spanked for it and ridiculed by your classmates, for asking too many questions

In this kind of learning environment, itās only a matter of time before the cramming-bug gets you or at least, a piece of you.
Your working formula becomes, ācram + rewrite down = passing examsā
Over time, using this particular, it may tend to work in your favour where exams are kind of preset with your prior knowledge or intuition
Till it stops working and youāre in a system that promotes more questions asked than work re-written downā¦. (downloading)

Or, walk outside the box, to get results and work done?

Do you see a usual learner, in the framing of that calculation?
Do you see any complex language or figures used to bring out the whole equation?
Most of all, can you actually prove that 1 + 1 = 3 ?

People learn differently, one style of teaching doesn’t fit all. For example, the way math is taught. Some people are more visual learners, and others are more critical thinkers. While 1 + 1 will always equal 2 (can’t argue with math) The approach on how we get to that answer and teach it can and should vary greatly depending on the students.

There’s definitely a certain teaching style that encourages kids to just pass tests rather than actually learn, and it’s usually based on fear.
š³š which is why we must change it!!!
It would be good to encourage the young ones to think about solutions and empower them with the reality that they are different ways to solve a problem. Nowadays, it is important to learn about different learning styles and how they vary, encourage the kids to speak their minds and ask questions when they need to.

Very enlightening article! I remember having to take test and just cram information instead of truly taking the time to do additional research or understand what I was learning. sadly, a lot doesnt change in the real world. Some people (like our teachers) you should not question, and we’re encouraged to get as much work done quickly as possible.

I like your point of view. Encouraging students to ask questions is always a good way to learn. I like to believe that education has evolved over the years and we’ve gotten better at educating. But then again it’s all about who is delivering the education. Thanks for a good post.
